# Scan one is the reference. Scan two is the answer.

The honest first-year question: if I scan now, what do I actually get?

The delta does not exist until scan two. What exists after scan one is the only record of your brain as it is today, acquired under conditions that make next year’s comparison valid.

## Three things exist that did not before.

### Timepoint zero

Your reference point: two scans on one morning, under the locked protocol. Every later scan is compared with it.

### Your margin of error

The two scans of timepoint zero give a first measure of how much your result varies on this scanner. It is reported with your reference values.

### A reserved series

Your place in a yearly series at HELIMED, held for you. A first scan taken on a different setup later cannot be joined to it.

## How your report reads.

The first thing you read is the value with its error. Then the measurements behind it, with the scanner, the sequence and the software version that produced them.

Report, timepoint zero

reference ± noise

“This is your reference point. There is nothing to compare it with yet.”

Each report lists the scanner, sequence, resolution and software version.

Report, year one

change ± noise

timepoint zeroscan 2

“No change larger than the noise.”

Figures appear once scan-rescan reliability data is complete.

## Your reference point, taken while there is nothing to see.
